State-ranked Winnebago Lutheran Academy found itself down by
eight points following the first quarter of a nonconference game against
Campbellsport.
The Vikings, though, held the Cougars to 19 points over the final three quarters, and
WLA went on to win.
"They came out and played hard in the beginning,"
WLA coach Jeremiah Hoffmann said. "Tim Whitty hit a 3 less than 30 seconds
into the second quarter, and they went up 18-7.
"But our defense just got better, and our shots went
in. We looked a lot better in second quarter. It was just an ugly start."
WLA (19-2) got 15 points from Cody Jackson, who made three
3-pointers. Ryan Stollfus tallied 13 points and five rebounds, Sean Augustyn
added 11 points and Mike Schraufnagel dished out six assists.
Campbellsport (4-15) was led by Reid Hundertmark's 12
points.
"They run a lot of screens," Hoffmann said.
"We did a nice job keeping them off balance between man and zone defenses.
... We did a better job talking through screens to make sure we had a hand in
front of those shooters."
WLA hosts Springs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Flyway
Conference finale, and the Vikings can finish 14-0 with a win.
The teams also will meet at WLA at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a WIAA
Division 3 regional opener. WLA got a No. 2 seed behind Oostburg, and Springs
is seeded seventh.
"It's not ideal, but there's not a lot you can do about
it," Hoffmann said. "Oostburg is deserving of a No. 1, and you just
have to play who is in front of you."
