Panthers fall shy in dual meet
PLYMOUTH – Sheboygan North finished 1-2-3 in the 100-yard breaststroke to key a 96-90 boys
swimming and diving dual win over host Plymouth Thursday night.
The nonconference meet was tied, 79-79, heading into the breaststroke
which was the second-to-the-last event. The Golden Raiders outscored PHS
13-3 in the breaststroke to take a 92-82 and all but clinch the win.
PHS won eight of the 12 events but wasn't able to match North's depth. The loss dropped the Panthers' dual record to 0-3.
Junior Cormick Hnilicka and senior Wendell Strutz were double-winners to
pace the Panthers. Hnilicka was first in the 200 and 500 freestyle
races, and Strutz won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly.
PHS won the junior varsity meet, 83-41. Senior Simone Vaglio won the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke to pace the Panthers.
“Great effort by senior Wendell Strutz and juniors Cormick Hnilicka and
Mitch Tournour who won all their individual events and were a part of
all the winning relays,” said Panther head coach Clare Sedlacek.
“With an eye to the future, we are really excited about the debut of our
two divers, freshmen Michael Bolland and Evan Klemme, who after less
than a week of real practice were able to legally complete six dives.
They have a great future ahead of them.
“Also, when looking at the times in the 50 freestyle for our JV and
exhibition swimmers, I was happy to see all our exhibition swimmers get
under the times of the two of Sheboygan North swimmers,” Sedlacek said.
