West Bend East Duals

WEST BEND — Campbellsport's Ryan Costello (103 pounds), Parker Peterson (112) and Payden Salm (152) went 5-0 to help the Cougars finish second.

Campbellsport topped West Bend West 33-30, Germantown 45-28, Greendale 78-3 and Greenfield 47-15. The Cougars lost to Green Bay Preble/East 46-27 in the title match.

Campbellsport also had five wrestlers finish 4-1 — Chet Floyd at 125, Rashaun Sparks at 130, Greg Blatz at 135, James Hawley at 171 and Zach Wetzel at 189.

"I was very pleased with our effort today," Campbellsport coach Mark Peterson said. "The competition was very good. The only real easy one we had was against Greendale. The other four teams … are all Division 1 teams. The thing that impressed me today was that we were able to pull out close matches. … We pulled out some overtime matches when the meet was on the line. It's good to see us starting to pull those out."

Salm went undefeated with five pins — 1 minute, 38 seconds; 2:50; 0:42; 2:27; and 1http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif:56.

Costello went undefeated with three pins and two forfeits, and Peterson had two pins.

"Salm is wrestling really good right now," Peterson said. "His confidence level has improved since Badger State. Costello is surprising everybody. He's 19-2 as a freshman. He's beaten some really good kids, and he's climbed up to fourth in the state rankings. Parker, my son, is starting to catch fire a little bit. He was at 119 earlier this season, but now he's down at 112. That's a good weight for him. He's been pretty solid."

With the four wins Saturday, Campbellsport has 499 career dual meet wins, according to Peterson. The Cougars can clinch victory No. 500 at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when they host Sheboygan Falls in a matchup of 3-0 Eastern Wisconsin Conference teams.
